Balthazar is a quintessential French brasserie in NYC and I finally got to come here for brunch after many, many years of putting this one on my dining bucket list! Do yourself a favor and snag a reservation on Resy (especially for brunch) since the restaurant was packed to the brim on a weekend. They also have a nice outdoor setup that's covered. It really does feel like you've been transported to France! We were seated in a booth and started off with some complimentary bread and butter. I thought the bread was lacking in freshness so I skipped this. Whenever I go to a brasserie, I tend to gravitate towards the steak frites. Here I decided to opt for this dish with maitre d'butter and it was cooked to perfection along with the fries. If you've ever hard the fries at Minetta Tavern, the fries are similar tasting and have that extra crunch. I also got to try the steak tartare which was delicious and melted in your mouth. Service was on the standard side. It was very hectic with brunch service so service was a bit slow, though our waitress was friendly and helpful with recommendations. Overall, I would come back for another occasion and next time, try to save room for their bakery next door!

Came to Balthazar by suggestion of a friend as I did not know it was under the same ownership as Pastis . Arriving, this became obvious due to the similar decor and menu . The venue was packed as expected and we waited the hour and was seated . Service was good and the food was great ! In orders the burger which is my go to at its sister property and it is equally as impressive ! Highly suggested !

salad nicoise, eggs norwegian, pomme frites....ohhh yesss.....DELICIOUS. the kitchen here never disappoints! and great coffee. it's worth noting that the service was lacking today: - waiter brought a member of my party real milk instead of oat milk - she also brought another member of my party the wrong side - and she forgot someone's drink none of that is consequential at all and as a former restaurant worker myself i know people have bad days...but if someone had had a dairy allergy it would be a different situation altogether

This evening we returned to Balthazar for dinner after an unfortunately long absence. I am very happy to reports that they have maintained the high level of excellence in service, presentation, preparation and ambience that had long kept this as our go-to restaurant for "every day" fine dining. This evening, we were home again. I thoroughly enjoyed the seasonal special appie of imported, white asparagus with a light hollandaise sauce followed by steak au poive with steamed spinach and perfectly prepared shoestring fries. My reports that her Balthazar salad and mushroom risotto were excellent. While I limited my dessert to a double espresso and Pernod (neat), she enjoyed a dessert of Oeufs ala niege (merengue with cream anglaise and almonds). Attentive, friendly and knowledgeable service by Nicaise rounded a wonderful dining experience. I look forward to returning "home" frequently. Balthazar remains HIGHLY RECOMMENDED.

We haven't been here in quite a while, but I am so happy we came tonight. This is still one of my all-time favorite restaurants with premium service and amazing food. It's very loud and lively, but it's all part of the ambience. This is just a great place to dine whether you're having dinner breakfast or lunch highly recommended. And our waiter Nicaise was amazing!

I wanted to find a place where I could dine outside downtown because it was so nice out today, and I felt like having a really good meal while just relaxing and people watching. So I had a solo brunch here today, well, not really solo if you count dining with your dog. But I had some of the friendliest servers I've experienced in the city. They were all very attentive and kind. They even offered me a champagne on the house that is given to solo diners, which I thought is very cute. All of the food that I got, the onion soup, the bread, and the king salmon were all delicious. The atmosphere is very lively and nice for people watching. When I was finished, I tied my dog up to a post so I can use the restroom and the servers offered to watch my dog for me, however they're very dog friendly there and even said I could take the dog inside if I really wanted to. Great place!

Balthazar is a trendy NY restaurant that celebrities go to. In the popular 90s show "Sex and the City" they modeled a restaurant after Balthazar in one of their episodes but called it Balzac instead. It's hard to get a reservation here which was featured in the episode. I had to make my reservation a month in advance, and I was able to snag a 5pm table. A-list celebs like the Kardashians, Leonardo DiCaprio, Meryl Streep, Anna Wintour etc. have all dined here. They also supposedly banned James Conden from the restaurant haha. Service was excellent from the moment we walked through the door. Their host and servers were all nice and friendly. They serve bread and butter upon seating. I ordered Steak Frites and a glass of wine and both were perfection. My cousin ordered the Porcini Risotto, and he liked his food as well. It was such an enjoyable meal and definitely lived up to the hype. I'm so glad we got to dine here, when we were planning our NY trip Balthazar was at the top of our list of places to visit. If you get the chance, try them out when you're in NYC.
